Trip to Poland: And we feel rich again!

Once again, we planned our travel during Mercury retrograde, but have no fear, this time it went fine!

Unaware of the crazy crisis who recently decided to hit us, Maria and I decided to take advantage of the cheap flights to Poland to visit the pretty city of Gdansk.

Perfect timing, I must say, since Denmark decided to close its frontier only 5 days after we came back!

Once again, here comes the best and the worst things that happened to us during this trip!

Step 1. Falling in love with the place.

After the 2 hours flight separating Aarhus from Gdansk, we arrived just in time for a South Europe lunch (meaning 15h).

One lunch of delicious pierogies with a good glass of wine was all it took, for us, to fall in love with this city! This pretty much sets the tone of this travel: cheap and delicious food and drinks!

After discovering the very fancy apartment we booked for this long weekend, we went for a walking exploration around the city. This walk ended with another experience we can't have in Denmark: smoking a cigarette, by the river while listening to La vie en rose.

Step 2. Getting to know the Tricity.

If like me before planning this trip, you have absolutly no idea what is Gdansk, you should know that it's a lovely little city, in the North of Poland very famous for its history.

The architecture there is absolutely amazing, especially in the very famous Royal route. So of course, we spent a lot of time wondering in the street, both by day and by night, just to enjoy it as much as possible. We also took a free walking tour in the city enabling us to get to know even more the architecture and history of this pretty city.

The most famous fact about Gdansk, is that WWII started there with the Westerplatte bombing. Therefore, it was an important place for us to go visit. We also went to the the WWII museum before its closing (which, regarding how big it was, only let us the time to visit half of it).

If Gdansk itself is a beautiful city, that we both loved exploring, when going there, it's impossible not to visit the 2 other part of the Tricity: Sopot and Gdynia. In Sopot, is this nice little resort city, where we, among others, saw the cracked house, which kind of reminds me of Harry Potter, before freezing while walking by the sea.

If we fell in love with Gdansk and liked the little city of Sopot, we can't say the same about the industrial Gdynia. Therefore, we stayed there just enough time to watch the view from the funicular, and to realize my credit card had been blocked (Mercury again).

Step 3. Being able to eat out, drink alcohol and party without having to sell a kidney

Here come the reason why we didn't question, not even for one second, the idea of travelling to Poland: it's cheap. Even more when you compare with Denmark.

So, obviously, we decided go to the restaurant at least once per day, and regarding the quality of the local food, it was heaven! While being there, we obviously had to experience the Polish night life! And what an experience...

After Maria made me discover her favorite Portuguese wine, we went out in really cool club in a bunker. If the building transport you back in time, the rest of the environment, going from the music to the outfit, transport you back in 2010! We spent a great moment singing the greatest songs from our teenage years (Only girl in the wooooorld) and making fun of the outfits... Until karma (or Mercury retrograde) hit me and I ripped my jean, forcing us to make a grand exit, hiding in the shadow, before literally running away from a group of Italian guys.

Let me tell you, this was a hell of a travel and probably the best impulsive decision I ever made (and I'm an Aries, so I'm used to being impulsive). It was a great week-end, enabling us to enjoy life one last time before Corona locked us in Denmark!
